I am travelling to Santiago Chile and will have approximately 4 extra days and able to fly to another city in South America. What city would be the most interesting to visit for this short amount of time?

  1. Get a fly straight to Florianópolis/SC-Brazil...it´s a mid size city in a beautiful island with 42 different pristine beaches...lots of nice hotels, restaurants, shopping malls...and it´s very secure, nice people, and excellent weather.

    Enjoy!

  2. Go to Cali, Colombia is the best city you will have fun, and the people are just great.

  3. I agree with the above.  Macchu Picchu in Peru is absolutely breathtaking!  There is so much history there as well as a beautiful view. If you go tehre you will not regret it.  Its one of the worlds wonders!

  4. You Have to get to Rio de Janerio check out www.lonely planet.com

  5. I would go to Buenos Aires or Rio de Janeiro. Buenos Aires is really close to Uruguay and you can literally reach the colonial city of Colonia or the capital city of Montevideo within a few hours via a high speed ferry or in 30 minutes if flying from Aeroparque airport. Buenos Aires is amazigly beautiful and has plenty of nightlife and culture.

Rio has many beautiful beaches and hills. The residents are very kind and has a lot of culture.

  6. Macchu Pichu in Cusco, Peru

  7. Bogota Colombia es una bella ciudad. y no olvides Cartagena de Indias

  8. I've been all over the continent and while I'm partial to Peru, it's far away and Lima is not a great place.  Getting anywhere else takes time, which you don't have.  So, if I were in Santiago and had 4 days, I'd visit Buenos Aires for sure.  It's a short flight or ride.  Santiago is nice, but Buenos Aires is by far the most cosmopolitan, European-like city on the continent.  The nightlife, music, food and culture are without equal.  The people are fascinating, seemingly oblivious to the fact that they share the continent with other countries.  They have their own way of talking, of doing things.   I spent 3 months there at the University of Belgrano and University of Buenos Aires and I really came to admire the place.  Just watch where you step on the sidewalk because people love to walk their dogs but aren't too keen on the picking-up part.

  9. There are many beautiful cities in South America, but one that is beautiful and underrated is Quito,in Ecuador. It has the biggest colonial old town in the continent (North and South America); the scenery is gorgeous; it is not expensive; there's a lot of art, culture, events, museums, and nightlife;  the weather is like spring-time year-round.

I know it's kind of far from Santiago, but if you have time you should go there... you won't regret it.
