What classes do I have to add to teach secondary ed.?

I already have a degree in BS degree in psychology and are what additional classes do i have to add in order to teach? I know that I would have to become certified, but any additional classes I would have to go back and take? Do anyone know?

  1. States do not issue credentials with simply additional classes. They only issue if you are recommended by an approved program. The classes you need will be supplied by this program.

    For example - if you do this through a university - they supply the classes, you pass the tests and they place you for student teachign while mentoring you through it. Then the school can apply to the state on your behalf.

    If you go to any states website, you'll see that *every* state requires a "state-approved program" as part of its requirements for certification. Hre is the direct quote from Californias website:

    "You must complete a professional teacher preparation program, including successful student teaching, at the level you wish to teach."

    Go to your states website and they list approved programs in your state - most are colleges, but some districts have internships and alternative entrance programs  -still 2-3 years, same requirements, just different sequence.
