Senior in highschool this year going into the marines after school. For the longest time I was going to go into the corp as a MP and then get out and become a cop but I like to write also... So I think I would like to work for a hunting show because I love hunting and they get to travel all around the world. I would love to write about interesting hunts or even photograph or Videotape these amazing hunts. So after the Core what college classes should I take and what should I do to get there? Thanks all.

  1. Simper Fi edge.jake I wish the very best for you.

Use the GI Bill after your enlistment and hit the journalism, and photo journalism classes.

As you already well know with the media bias of liberalism in journalism. You will have that against you after the Corps. Don't let them get you down and your never alone Marine.

  2. If you want ot write for a living, you must have something that you KNOW about.  You can only write effectively about that which you know.  To write anything, you must first learn the basics such as grammar and spelling.  Then you must learn composition and rhetoric.  From there you can build by studying Creative Writing, Technical Writing and Journalism.  After mastereing all of the "book learning" you will have to be prepared to write, write and write some more.  Then you will have to re-write what you have wirtten until it is perfect.  Once you have it perfected, you can start sending it to publishers.  The various outdoor magazines will be your initial market for outdoor writing.  Be prepared to accept rejection over and over again.  You will be new and unknown so it will be hard to get anyone to buy your work initially.  Once you get one piece published, you will have opened that closed door and the opportunities will start to be there.  Develop a style that the publishers and the reading public like and write about those things that you know and are interesting to the publishers and public.  Then learn how to meet a deadline and work through writer's block and the writing world is your oyster.

  3. Look into becoming a photog for the corp and take journalism classes while you are in

If classes are  not possible then research the greats

Learn every aspect of big game hunting, learn firearms and how to write about both
