  1. silly love songs - wings

    duhhhhhh!

  2.      Isolde's "Liebestod"(Love-Death)from Richard Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde".

This opera is considered to be the greatest musical monument to romantic love, ever conceived.

It, the "Liebestod", occurs at the very end of this nearly 4 hrs. long master-piece, and last for only 6 to 7 mins.

Tristan has died from wounds received in a duel, and she is leaning over his prostrate, still, dead body.  She sings of his smiling face, his kind loving heart, and noble countenance.

And through her unbearable sorrow, because of it, becomes transfixed on a reality that only she is able to perceive.

She begins to smell wonderful aromas, hears glorious sounds, and ask those gathered around the couple, do not they them also perceive?

Then at last, unable to endure her terrible grief, expires over him, the curtain very slowly descending.  And one is left almost paralyzed with the transcendental  beauty of the scene.

  3. fur elise - beethoven

  4. Nessun Dorma from Puccini's Turandot. This is one of the most know tenor arias in opera history. It is sung by Calaf (The unknown prince), who at first sight falls in love with the beautiful but heartless and cold princess Turandot. However, any man who wishes to wed Turandot must answer her three riddles, if he fails she cuts his head off!

In the previous act, Calaf has correctly answered the three riddles put to all of Princess Turandot's prospective suitors. Nevertheless, she recoils at the thought of marriage to him. Calaf offers her another chance by challenging her to guess his name by dawn. If she does so, she can execute him, but if she does not, she must marry him. The cruel and emotionally cold princess then decrees that none of her subjects is to sleep that night until his name is discovered. If they fail, all will be killed.

I think this is one of the most powerful love songs from classical history.

  5. Puccini has a way of expressing true emotions in his operas.  In La Boheme the Duet, with Rodolfo and Mimì: "O soave fanciulla  (Oh gentle maiden) is the purist expression of newfound love I have ever heard.  It still makes me cry when I hear it.

  6. Everytime my significant other and I would hear the Righteous Brothers "Unchained Melody" both of us would really feel the song  -  if you know what I mean.  That song always said so much and it appealed to both of us, not just for girls.  It's a classic alright.

  7. try if you're not the one
