Question:

What clothes are "appropiate" while travelling in Ireland?

My parents think that I should only bring fancy clothes like khaki pants, and collared shirts when we go to Ireland. I think this is stupid, because they obviously dress casually there so why can't I? Do you think it's okay to wear t-shirts and jeans there?

  1. T shirts and jeans will do just nicely. Just be yourself.

(but it wouldn't hurt to pack a shirt and trousers if only to placate your folks and thereby maximise the chances of a happy holiday for all. Compromise is a wonderful thing.)

What's of far greater import is the raincoat...!

  2. Khaki pants are not dress clothes, they are casual clothes.. but a bit better than jeans.. bring a pair of those in case you want to go to a restuarant that says no jeans, and then bring a pair of jeans..just pack light.  Golf shirts or similar are a better bet than just tee shirts, but definitely bring tee shirts.  Just be prepared for either scenario.. but definitely bring shorts and jeans.

  3. jeans and tee shirts is what basically everybody wears here, shorts aren't worn much because this has been the wettest summer on record so far, so bring a goretex jacket or raincoat or something light and waterproof, depending on  where you are going in Ireland, will decide what kind of clothes you should bring, if you are going to Dublin, then you canwear whatever you want, but if you are going hiking or to the countryside then obviously a new pair of white tennis shoes are not the thing to wear... enjoy your stay here anyway

  4. jeans and t shirts and the full monty for dinner parties
