  1. I would actually not recommend wearing jeans, particularly if you are going to be riding English-style.

Jeans have a thick seam down the inside of the leg and this will rub and cause you discomfort.  If you look at a pair of jodhpurs or breeches you will notice that there is NO seam on the inside of the leg.

I would recommend that you wear something like tracksuit bottoms (jogging pants) or leggings (tight fitting) and a long sleeved top - I know it is not a nice thing to talk about, but if you fall off you want to make sure your arms don't get scraped.

You need to wear a shoe with a slight heel and no treads on the sole - wellington (gum) boots are definitely not suitable, and I'm afraid I hate to see people riding in trainers (sneakers).

The one thing I would say, is that if you find you like riding, then invest in some correct riding wear as soon as possible.  It is designed for the job so is the most comfortable thing you can wear.  You can pick up a pair of jodhs for about £25-£30 ($50-$60).

  2. Wear a comfortable pair of jeans, any shirt will do and wear a shoe that has some sort of heel on it. It you have cowboyboots or something like it...you want something that will prevent your foot from going thru and getting stuck in the stirrup.

  3. Wear anything that makes you feel comfortable, but don't wear pants that are too tight.  Also, make sure that you take some breaks from riding the horse and walk around a little bit.  Believe me, if you're not used to being in a horse, you'll get really sore.  And just have fun!

  4. Hi,

YOU CAN WEAR WHATEVER YOU WANT TO I WOULD'NT WANT TO WEAR SHORTS THROUGH. IF YOUR WORRIED I WOULD SUGGEST LONG PANTS AND A SHIRT DEPENDING ON THE WEATHER FOR THE SHIRT.

  5. it depends on what riding you're doing.

if you're going for a nice WALKING trail ride, then wear some pants/jeans that are tight atleast down to the knee, with thin seams if possible. also, be sure to wear BOOTS.no sandals, no runners, no fancy dress boots. just wear some boots with a good 1/2 inch heel at least, but dont get a heel thats over 1 1/2 inches., you'll get stuck in the stirrup. also, wear a helmet. if you're not around horses much, you're gonna want to wear a helmet. i dunno what the weathers like where you are, but if its cold and ur gonna wear gloves, make sure they have grip, you want to be able to hold the reins. also, in general, wear the most suitable but comfortable clothing possible. you dont want back pockets on your pant with buttons on them that are gonna jab you in the but if you get bounced around a bit :)

    but....

if you're just taking a little english style riding lesson, then wear boots, as i said,  a helmet, and tight pants, maybe not jeans, but no corduroys or anything like that.

    hope this helps!
