  1. Outer Layer: Jacket and Pants - better to get the best ones you can buy like Burton or North Face. Get pants that have double layer reinforced seat and knees if possible and a jacket without insulation that you can wear even if it is warm.

Base Layer: It is best NOT to wear cotton against your skin. If it gets wet, it will stay wet and you will be miserable. Synthetic medium weight long underwear is good for all but the very coldest days. Even nylons on the bottom will add a little extra warmth and keep the moisture away from your skin. Patagonia is best, but there are dozens of good brands - Doufold, Hot Chilis, etc.

Midlayer: You will only need if it is very cold - a fleece under your jacket will do, a cotton hoodie will also work but isn't as good.

Gloves: You either need a pair of really good GoreTex gloves which will keep your hands dry or two pairs of lesser gloves. Look for a high "gauntlet" (the top) and really strong fabric - North Face, Burton, Dakine, etc.

If you have all of these, you can wear some / all depending on the conditions and you will be comfortable.

    Have fun and good luck!

  2. First off; forget jeans (the wind goes through them much too easily and when wet (being cotton) they wick heat away from you.

You can safely overdress, and unzip to ventilate.

    I am going to assume you get cold easily so I will give you the whole list;

Hat; a must, lots of heat lost here, and ears easily get cold.

Scarf; only needed if the collar on the coat lets in air too easily.

Hands: Mittens work best, good gloves work for some. In all cases a liner  thin (inner) glove that clings tightly to your hand helps tremendously. Smartwool makes nice ones. Silk is ok also.

Pants; Jeans would work if used with outside windpants (like nylon workout type), but these need to be somewhat waterproof since as a learner you will fall a lot.

Socks: a thin wicking sock (like coolmax, NOT cotton!)) next to the skin and a thicker wool or synthetic on top. Don't let them give you boots too ridiculously tight or your feet will get very cold.

Jacket: most anything works that is intended for snow (ie; the traditional "ski jacket".

Underwear: get some cheap polypro (or other synthetic, NOT cotton) long underwear and shirt. Size them on the tight side so they cling to your body.

At the end of each day make sure your boots and gloves are  open as much as you can get them so that they dry out (hands and feet perspire a LOT). To be wet is to be cold.

Have fun and take a group lesson instead of just trying on your own; you will have a blast!

I like Sporthill clothing a lot, maybe you will see something you like in their line.

Don't let yourself go hungry! You need fuel to both play, and to keep warm.

  3. Okay i have been skiing many times before. First be sure to wear many layers. I would wear long underwear then sweatpants and then ski pants. Then wear a t-shirt then a sweatshirt and then a big ski jacket. Also make sure you wear goggles and a hat and gloves and ski boots. Dont forget sunscreen!! =)

  4. dont worry about your outfit!!! just dress warm, and go have fun
