One thing can be agreed, is that the relationship can't stay the same, if it results in Russia behaving this way. So what do you think the consequences should be?

I've heard things like,

make it the G7, with the explusion Russia.

Postpone it's entry into the World trade oreganisation.

Cut off it's seat at the NATO table.

Excellerate Ukraine's entry into NATO and the EU (i definantly would like that one! Improving NATO's defensive umbrella)

  1. that last one sounds like a good one. because it seems like russias trying to get back their "slavic" land. ukraine is populated with slavic people so its best to get ukraine in some sort of defensive against russia if that were to happen

  2. Russia is in NATO???????????????

  3. well whatever we do to them won't be much, come on "expelling Russia from NATO" thats soooooooo scary. Russia doesn't give a c**p about NATO and they don't even care to be in it.

  4. oh please, what can we do?  nothing that's what.  expecting our "allies" over seas do support any sort of military solution is ludicrous.  the euros roll over and pi** themselves at the thought of anything more dangerous that a slapfest.  and you can forget about economic sanctions when they get most of their oil form russia or russian controlled ports (don't want to risk crushing their economy if russia decides to turn off the tap).  i feel bad for georgia but shouldn't they have learned a lesson from seeing what happened when the chechen republic decided to send folks to play in dagestan?  all that's gonna happen is a lot of talk and talk and talk until this sorts itself out (probaly when and how the ruskies decide).  and then we can pat ouselves on the back and talk about another crisis avioded.  hooray!

  5. It is tough to say how to handle the situation with Russia.  Georgia did attack South Ossetia first.  Russia who was there on a peace keeping mission, countered as they were suppose to, however here is where it gets sticky.  Russia then invaded Georgia destroying civilian infrastructure and buildings along the way.  They went over the top in their response and that should not be taken lightly.

Despite what several people on here have posted, military action against Russia by NATO would be dumb, it would only escalate things into a full scale war.  Something the world does not need.  The war would be devestating and very costly in terms of lives lost.  What would that accomplish?

I feel NATO needs to get nations like Georgia and the Ukraine into their club to help protect them, however if something like this happens again where a nation attacks like Georgia did, they should be removed.  Its kind of like when the little guy in the group starts a fight but then expects all his buddies to back him up when he was wrong in the first place.

Its seat at the NATO table is more an honor to help promote Russian/NATO relations.  There is no reason the two can't work together to solve problems like with Iran.

Should Russian peacekeepers be removed from South Ossetia yes, but they should be replaced with UN peacekeepers from nations who have no interest in the region, so that would exclude NATO forces also.  Russia should also get their butts out Georgia like yesterday and stop diddle dalling around.  You know they are up to something.

  6. I'd also include trade restriction (us to them) and encourage our allies to do the same. Something we should have done a long time ago to China, and still need to do.

  7. Right, so we just ignore the fact that Georgia started it?Blinkered or what?Use the spell checker BTW.

  8. I am a American and i am tired of being used my some third world facish who wants to start a war and expect us to bail them out it happen in Yugoslavia twice and now Georgia it seem that everyone has found a new way to use us excepts us if Saakashaville really believed on freedom he would let those you wanted to remained Russian do so then he might get my respect
