What college do you think is best for a mutual fund manager? What must I do to reach the top?

  1. First, I would concentrate getting really good grades in school and reduce my time on boards like that to zero.

  3. You'll want to go to an excellent business school, one with a top notch Finance department (http://businessmajors.about.com/od/choos...

    During college, be sure to do multiple internships (preferably with an investment company).  Afterwards, you'll probably need a few years of work experience before applying to business school to get your MBA.  Along the way, you'll have to earn your Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.  This is a very difficult milestone - ask anyone who's tried (I have).

    You'll have to start out as an analyst working for a fund manager before you can actually become a manager.

    The best cities to live in (where the most mutual fund companies are located) are Boston and New York.

    This is an extremely competitive field, and it will not be easy, but if you make it, it can be very rewarding (not to mention lucrative).
