  1. To some extent, it depends on what sort of position you're interested in. International Relations, Political Science, Economics, Pre-law, maybe if you want to work legal issues in international relations. Language skills are also useful.

  2. International Relations would go a long way. Also if you are interested in certain regional studies such as Middle East studies and African Studies, it will work too.

  3. Georgetown University offers a degree from the School of Foreign Service. Expensive and doesn't guarantee you a job in the FS, but certainly would give you an edge over other applicants.

  4. International studies, foreign service and other related courses are the best to apply for a diplomatic or foreign affairs position.

  5. Some schools offer "government", "political science", "international affairs/studies". You might also find it useful to study history or, if you want really to stand out, major in some specific part of the world e.g. China/Chinese, Islamic studies,

    Russian studies, etc.

  6. International Relations and Political Science

take a foreign language while you're at it, too.
