What colleges are as nice or nicer than Princeton?

Obviously Princeton was built centuries ago, same as Harvard, but it isn't just the name that is great about it, it's the architecture. Princeton is definitely one of the most BEAUTIFUL campuses I have ever seen however I have only seen a few. I like the campus of William and Mary as well, however Princeton has that grayish, brick, castle like exterior that I love. So the question is...besides Princeton, what are some of the most nicest college campuses?

To get a better answer I will give a few examples of very highly respected universities around the world that are hundreds of years old or more.

Princeton (US)

University of Cambridge (UK)

Oxford (UK)

University of Toronto (Canada)

McGill University (Canada)

Dalhousie University (Canada)

Can you name some high ranking colleges around the world like these?

  1. I'd say Stanford

  2. st. andrews, uk

    corthold, uk

    harvord, us

    colombia, us

  3. I used to live in Princeton and agree with your assessment.  it is a beautiful campus.

In general, urban campuses can't be as nice.  So, while schools like Penn, Harvard and Columbia have nice campuses, they don't compare.  Schools in rural or suburban areas tend to have nicer campuses.

Two schools that I attended rival Princeton.  Villanova University and Duke University both have really beautiful campuses.

Other campuses that I have seen that I think are beautiful are Dartmouth, Emory, Haverford and Bryn Mawr.

There are other schools that have nice parts.  Berkeley, for example, has some portions that are beautiful -- but also has some really ugly buildings.   I suspect that some people would claim that Stanford is beautiful.  I think it is just OK.

  4. Trinity College Dublin

    Columbia University

    University of the South

    UC San Diego

    Wellesley

    Stanford

    UC Santa Cruz

    Swathmore

    UVA

    Cornell

    Pepperdine

    Washington & Lee

    Vassar

    Dartmouth

    University of Chicago

    Middlebury

    Colgate

(Just an FYI, but I wouldn't consider Dalhousie a top ranking world university)
