  1. I go to Brigham Young University in Utah, and it's a religious school but it does have that. The dance program is really strong here and Dance Education is a major, I believe it focuses mainly on modern dance, but also encompasses other dance styles.

  2. There are quite a number of college dance programs that offer dance education or "dance pedagogy" as a concentration, but only a few that lead to being certified to teach dance in secondary schools. This is because there are very few dance programs or classes offered within secondary school settings. Most dance education occurs in private dance studios, which don't require teachers to be state certified in dance. So most students who aim to be dance teachers are satisfied with the typical dance education programs.

Get hold of the print edition of the Dance Magazine College Guide:

    http://dancemedia.k-online.biz/cgi-bin/B...

It gives a breakdown of (almost) all the college dance programs and what concentrations they may offer.

Some programs that I'm aware of for general dance education:

    Marymount Manhattan College:

    Point Park University:

    Butler University:

    University of Oklahoma:

A couple that offer teacher's certification in dance education:

    Texas Women's University:

    Brigham Young University:

All that being said, many graduates from general college dance programs that do NOT offer concentrations in pedagogy still use their college education to go on to become dance teachers. But if you're looking for actual dance education programs, don't be confused by people who simply rattle off colleges with general dance programs.

  3. Grand Valley in Michigan has a dance program, but I would check out art related schools like Kendall college in Michigan or I'm sure that a school in New York or Chicago would have a strong dance program.  Good Luck!
