What color bridesmaid dresses?

The church where I want to get married is carpeted in dark red everywhere. My reception venue is pretty neutral, but has these large drapes that I can't change which are gold and red. I really want to do the reception (at night, in a ballroom) with very dim lighting and red and orange flowers, maybe with gold linens or chargers on the tables.

What color bridesmaid dresses would look good? I can't do red because it would blend with the carpet. My friends would look terrible in any shade of gold or champagne (they're pale). Orange would look too Halloween. What's left?

What about brown? Its huge this year and looks flattering on everyone, and will go well with your theme.

Chocolate brown with gold sashes? Gold with chocolate sashes? Pumpkin with burgundy sashes? Silver? Green? Rose? Deep purple (eggplant)? Navy blue?

I think black and white would look really pretty with the red!! If I wasn't doing a fall themed wedding I would love to do black and white with some red..

Do a lighter dark red, if that makes any sence. If the dress is off the floor, or tea length, it will separate the color. A gold sash would mix it up a little more, and make it a little bit different that would separate them from the floor. Good luck!

If you want red, do red. Don't deny the color you really want because of a ceremony that's going to last 55 minutes tops and that's only if your Catholic.  The majority of the pictures at your ceremony, anyway,  are going to be of you and your groom.  If you're that concerned, just make sure you have no formal bridal party photos taken in the church.  Watch, you'll pick your red and its not going to make that big of a deal.   Remember when you're in the church, all eyes will be on you, not the carpet, not the bridesmaid dresses, just you and your groom.
