What color highlights should i get? ?

i have black (okay really really dark brown) layered hair a couple inches past my shoulders with sidebangs on one side and yeahh.

i DONT wan't natural highlights. i wanna be different.

but i dont want something that'll make me look like clown :)

im thinking red or purple.

but if i do red, if i don't bleach my hair first it'll turn out an akward brownish red.

so any suggestions on color, and how i should get it done (bleached first, etc) ?

and, should i get tips, or straight up\down highlights, or what?

my friend has hair like yours and shes had like every color. my favorite was the purple and pinks that she had. personally i think that red makes you look a little angry or something. i also really liked the blue she put in, but still purple and pink were definitely the best. she put her color in on her tips, but on a bottom layer of her hair and it looked really really good. i think that straight up and down is too much.

Well if you do try crazy colours like blue, pink, purple and yellow, etc I noticed that they didnt lastvery long and they faded quite a bit, but if you went with a brownish red colour, that might work wonders with your hair. Plus if you do colour your hair crazy colours you may just get sick of it quicker. XD

You have dark hair like mine so I would suggest for you to bleach your hair if your going to go a really light colour.

Hm...blue or green would look SUPER-cool. I would have no idea how to apply them though...sorry!
