depends on the things it sucks in. the color is no color at all actually. its just wind but the strong wind pulls in may things like the clouds, dust and dirt on the ground.

It's original color is clear. It begins to turn black and brown when it rolls over land. That's because it picks up dirt, dust, and debries.

I saw one.  Definitely grey.

It appears gray because of all the dirt that it picks up and the dark clouds that it comes from...actually its clear. Tornados are made of wind.
