  1. EDIT - I looked at the photo and my bet is she is black.  She can't be grulla - unless one of the parents carries the dun factor - Which you would see primitive markings like dorsal and leg bars) - If you suspect one to be carrying the dun (D) gene - you should contact UC Davis and have them tested. She is not grey - as one of her parents would need to be grey -  The gray gene (G) is dominant and thus will not skip generations. Two non-grays can never have a gray foal. Gray in horses is a bit like gray in humans-- the hair will lighten with age. In horses, the graying usually starts when the foal coat is shed, although the graying can start later when the horse is a few years old

If she is appears steel grey - I would venture to wonder if the filly is a blk overo like her sire?  The Sabino pattern of Overo - could be what is making the hair coat look "grey" or "Roaning" - when in fact its white hairs making the black or even brown (near blk) look grey.  Here is a link of a sorrel Sabino,

However without photos we're only guessing....

Edit:  I looked at the picture... she's very young to tell, she could go a lot of different ways, including black and possibly dark bay... she doesn't look grulla now, but she could lighten to it... you'll have to keep us posted with photos as she ages.

Btw, my horse has less white than that and he's a registered paint, they don't have to have the big spots to be a paint.

  3. I would say that there is a good chance she is black.

  4. Prob. Black, but my TB's mom and Dad are both chestnut and he turned out bay so you have to go back pretty far back in there lines!

    hope this helps...please best answer!

  5. Already being grey at her age, she will likely start greying out even more. Do you know if either her sire or dam have grey parents? You'll probably start noticing lightening around her muzzle and eyes eve she is going to go grey. Here is a link to a website with some great photos or horses in the greying process:

  6. She could turn black or bay when she sheds her baby woolyes. good luuuckkk
