I just opened a can of tomato paste and it's a dark, dark red. Almost burgundy. Does this mean it's bad?

  1. Yep, sounds correct.  It's a very deep, blood red b/c it's concentrated.  Very little water.

  2. No, tomato paste is highly concentrated.  It's very dark.  Look for an expiration date if you're concerned.

  3. taste it if it tastes tinny like from the can don't use it.

  4. It is probably the type of tomatoes used, and there maybe some additives.

Check the date on the tin, and ensure there are no dents or holes.

  5. The color of the paste depends one the color of the tomatos its made from.  Deep red is fine if the expiration date is good & the can isn't damaged.

  6. It's OK.  It is very concentrated and is very dark.
