What color paint mailbox post?

I live in the country and there is tall grass around our mailbox. The mailbox is a dark brown. The post holding up the mailbox needs to be painted. Would you paint it a dark brown like the mailbox or a white so it stands out more?

  1. Mine was terrible looking.  The post had faded and chipped paint.  I sanded it down, painted a primer on it then painted it white.  The mailbox was black metal and was scratched and chipped.  I painted a primer over it and also painted it white.  Since it was scratched before, you could kind of see the scratch indentations through the new paint so I then bought some mailbox covers to cover up the imperfections.  I could not decide on a design so I ended getting different ones and I change them when the seasons change.  Here are a few to look at:

I love my mailbox now, it's so cute.  And it did not cost me much money either!!

    Hope this helps!

  2. I am guessing that your mailbox is far enough away from your house to be independent of the color scheme? I live in the burbs but my mailbox is about 200 feet from the house. It doesn't pay me to decorate it because 1) too far from the house, 2) drawing attention to it only invites teenaged mailbox bashers...no kidding.

Were it me, I would paint the post same as the mailbox. If you wanted to provide some definition and decoration to the box, do it with plantings instead.

    Best,
