I am trying to create a relaxed contemporary look and I have an awesome celadon microfiber sectional that i bought on clearance at Macy's. I have medium oak hardwood floors and don't know type / color of rug and what wall color to go with? Help please!

  1. cranberry looks amazing with light sage

  2. red or light orange would be awesome

  3. With that color couch I would go with a light gray or a light mushroom color, and a big red area rug. I promise it wont look christmassy!

  4. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think an olive like "eminent bronze" (# 6412) might look good with the couch.

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

Here are heaps of comtemporary rugs that might work for you:

The Corolla Rug in taupe might be nice.

  5. i love how fresh blue and green look together! try painting the walls a pale robin's egg blue. for drama add cream or white and deep chocolate accents.

below is a link to pottery barn rugs...

look at the maren rug and the cecilia rug. two different looks.

  6. A soft golden honey or camel or going monochromatic on the walls would look great. I would not go for red walls. An accent red wall maybe, but not all four walls. They are mixing sage and aqua big time now so the celdon would look nice with aqua walls. There are tons of pillows available in that combination. You should really pick the rug color first and then the paint. Paint is easier to match and that the reason the wall color is last.
