my room is pretty big, standard ceiling height, walls are smooth, ceiling is semi-smooth, 3 windows, woodwork is an orangey-yellowy light wood. the carpet is beige.

Here's a picture that shows what color woodwork I have (pretty much):

I don't have a strong preference, just want something kinda nuetral. I want something a little bolder than ivory or white, but not too bright or too dark. i was thinking a light gray or maybe some color in the oranges family? i can't think of any orangeish colors that would go with the trim, though. any thoughts? please be as specific as possible, with an exact shade or a link to a picture or something. i am open to any advice you want to give. i will add more details if you ask questions.

  1. I have some very similar wood work.  There is taupe  in the living room, blue in the kitchen  and rooms-waiting-to-be-painted..

It goes with a lot of colors, but I wouldn't do anything dark or muddy.

Get some paint cards from the paint store and see what you like.

After all, you have to live with it.

    Good luck and happy painting.

  2. If you don't want the trim to show much, pick a color close to it.  If you want the trim to really show, pick a color opposite it on the color wheel.

Use a mustardy tannish color to blend, use blue to pop.

  3.   I would never paint oak silly stain it just pick a clear stain and seal it

  4. I think (although I really like oranges and deep peach) that it isn't enough contrast with a golden oak. I think you would probably be better off staying in the gray, lavender (on blue side), blues and green families. A sage maybe or an aqua. I would get something in there like a painting, bedspread, etc to tie things together with your carpet and even the trim. A frame on a painting could do that or even a repeat of the golden oak hues in a fabric that incorporates other colors to. That you would have a color scheme.

  5. I to have the same kind of wood trim.. I like neutral colors as well.. Since you have beige carpet I think I would go with a light wheat color, and/or a light mauve.. if you like that color. I got this really pretty light beige in mine with a tint of wheat.. it's really pretty.. I got it at Menards in Nebraska.. Not sure where you're at, but any paint store can make a color to suit your style.. Make sure its something that will accent your carpet as well.. Don't worry about the trim.. I personally don't like orange , but if you that preference than maybe ask someone at the paint store to help guide you in picking a color,, they are really good about that.. good luck :p)

  6. Great color for your trim.  Do not do any orange shade, though; orange will either 'dirty' the trim look or clash.

Your can do 3 walls in a light or pastel shade and a darker, medium shade on the the 4th (& larger viewing) wall since it is a large room.

For neutral, do beige to wheat on 3 and tan on 4th.

For neutral, do pastel shade on 3 and either medium darker of same shade on 4th or do the medium gray on 4th.

In my bedroom, I did the off white for the ceiling.  Then a mint green for the 4 walls.  Then added mauve (with off white, green) wallpaper border.  Plus added curtains with various shades of greens and mauve.

These basic colors matched the bedspread.

Pick colors in your room to pick your lighter wall shades to offset the current accent colors that you have.  I'm big on the mint green and mauve - - then work from that.  Everything will go with it except the orangy shades tend to clash with the Golden Oak.

    I would say maybe 1424 or 1421

If you want something boring maybe 1425
