What color should I paint my dorm?

I'm a guy so naturally I am not very good with anything concerning interior design. I will be moving into a room for college in the next couple of weeks, the current color of the room is black which is too dark for me. Most of my electronics tv, speakers, computer, ps3 are all black and have blue lighting which is what I want to base the color of my room around. It is not a dorm room so I do not share it with anyone else, it is a house I am living in with eight other people and each person gets a room thats about the size most dorm rooms are except like I said no roommate. Any suggestions for wall color?

Go with blue if your lighting is blue.

First thing you MUST do is prime. 2 coats of KILZ to cover the black.

I'd go with a pale color that will enlarge the space and act as a 'neutral' just a hint of color in blue or green or lavender or even a yellow - but keep it very, very sot, as it will be more prominent on the walls. You can always fgo with a beige or taupe as well.

If you want to you could makr off random squares or circles or whatever around the room (not too many) and paint them in a different bolder color (or different colors) to add depth and interest to your walls.

For putting up posters, use the 'glue dots' available at Michaels and other such stores. They will keep the things up til you move them and not hurt the walls when you remove them.

Consider getting a small fan to put by your bed to for 'white noise' to keep you from killing all those roommates. Also, they have foam earplugs (my best friend swears by these) you can sleep/study with to drown out the noise from so many others sharing your space.

I have an answer that will require a little bit of research on your part.  Go find out what your Chinese Horoscope sign is and use that information to figure how to paint your room.  Green is my color and so I would use green.  It will tell you lots of information and help you achieve your best.

Keep your room black. Then you should paint the windows red. After that make the purchase of a very large clock that chimes upon the hour.

You own a whole dorm? Why don't you ask all the people that live in your dorm what colour you want to paint it before you paint it... unless you are refering to a single dorm room. Then..do as the Rolling Stones suggest and paint it black.

I ALWAYS WANTED TO BE AN INTERIOR DESIGNER AND HELP PEOPLE WITH THEIR CONFUSION. SINCE THE WALL COLOR IS BLACK IT WILL BE REALLY DARK SO I PREFER A MEDIUM COLOR AND AS YOU SAID MOST OF THE STUFF ARE BLACK AND YOU ARE A GUY  RED WOULD BE IT. IT IS A REALLY GUD COMBINATION WITH BLACK

i'd paint it white - it will make your room look larger and can go with anything. if thats too drab for you, i'd suggest painting it a paler hue.
