Question:

What color should I paint my hallway?

I have a 3 bedroom ranch and all rooms branch off from one hallway. None of the rooms are the same color, so I am confused as to what I should paint the hallway. Right now it is stark white and looks out of place. You can't really see much of the hallway from the living room or the kichen if that helps. I am assuming something neutral, but any neutral color specifically that I should try for? Thanks!

  1. Sandstone color is a great choice it's not light or dark and all colors go with it.Good Luck!

  2. In my house we painted our hallway a olive green sort of color, and its really pretty. Also we have a lightish brown color which I like alot. You could also try a pretty red, or gold.

  3. ^ that was creepy.

i would paint it an off white or a cream color. it's versatile.

i just painted my house. also, light grey's work too. but very light.

  4. i would ask the people that work at the paint store for suggestions then go from there

  5. I grew up in a 3 bedroom ranch. for most of my life, it was the same color as the living room, and for years that was a light gray. Then my mom did it in a "paper illusions" wallpaper - that you tear up & stick on & it kinda looks like stone. She liked that so well that she did the hallway in her new condo with the same stuff.

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think a green-gray like "sea glass" (# 7190) from their SandScapes faux finish collection might look good. And the sand texture would add another interesting element to the hallway.

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

  6. u should paint it something light to brighten the hall way....

  7. Try  a light beige or gray whichever you prefer....go to paint store for samples as there are many shade variations.

  8. @ Lowes there is a brand called Olympic Paints . I love the colors Pony Tail (which is a medium tan color)and Sauteed Mushroom (which is a medium brown color) they are both neutral and look great if you want a lighter color they also have one called Brandied Pears that is pretty too.

  9. pale green

  10. go to the wallpaper shop and gets some free samples, then you can place them against the wall and see which color jumps out at you.

  11. Your hallway sounds a lot like mine.  If you like color as I do then find or finally hang a unique piece in your hallway and use the accent color in that piece and your color.  It will make your wall hanging pop and add life to your hallway.  Also, if you use a lighter color on the ceiling of your hallway it makes it appear taller and bigger.

  12. I'd go for champagne colors, It goes great with the ranch style environment, compliments most other colors and plays with the light that hits the walls

  13. main = 1428, highlight with 1421

  14. you should paint it blood red so any mishaps involving blood that happen could easily be concealed :P

  15. I have an almond color paint..  It doesn't take away from the other colors, but it is very warm, so you kind of don't notice it, and much better than white!
