i think a rich colour such as maroon, terracotta or purple would go with a gold carpet. then again colours like this can tend to overpower a room so why not have a feature wall painted in a bold, striking colour and then painting the other walls in something more neutral like beige or cream? you can often find a lot of ideas for how to choose paint colours on the Dulux website.

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think it would look terrific to do a green like "garden spot" (# 6432).
