Question:

What color walls go well with a white leather couch?

I'm having a modern looking white leather modular (sectional) sofa being delivered next week. I have a red shag rug to add a splash of color to the room and I'm wondering if there's any color I can add to the wall behind the sofa without making things clash. I'm not married to the red rug. Most other items in the living room are white or black with the exception of some silver and red in a few pieces of graffiti art on canvas. The other rooms of the house are painted fun colors and I'm pretty happy with how things look throughout. The look I'm trying to achieve in the living room is high-tech modern day (not modern 60's). Although there can be slight mash-up there and still have a well put together place (think the Standard Hotels in LA).

  1. I think going with the red. It'd be bold and bring in the rug (that you're NOT married to ;)). I wouldn't be so anal as to get the EXACT color. I'm assuming the rug is either bright or deep red. So, I'd go with an "off" color of that. Maybe even a slighter orangey-red, matte, type color.

  2. Any color that you like would work, except for white.  There are about 10,000 shades of white.  But you wouldn't want a white couch in front of a white wall anyway, because the couch would kind of disappear.  If the room is big, you could go with a dark shade behind the couch, that would be very dramatic.  Paint the rest of the walls a lighter tone of the dark color.  Blue would work well with everything you've described.

  3. Your best choice would be grey. Any shade will do. You have a white couch so against a grey wall, it will pop. Plus grey is a mixture of white and black. Red is a wonderful accent color for this. If you plan on getting stainless steel appliances you'll be glad you did this.

  4. iris blue

  5. Google pictures of living rooms with white leather sofas and you will get many ideas and maybe one you like.

  6. I would go with a creamy white color. Then, you can add wall hangings and decorate to give it color. If it were me, I might think about doing the room patriotic. They have some really nice stuff out right now.

  7. Most " Solid" colors should work fine, but really try to think " Neutral Solids"

  8. my first thought was a light brown or something like that, maybe even a rich gray, those colors sound kind of dull but they can be done nicely

otherwise if its color you want, id go with a nice bright or deep red, not just to go with the rug but it would i suppose, or maybe even a lighter plue with a purple undertone in it, so more indigo than sky blue

good luck, hope your new room turns out great, sounds pretty cool to me :)
