I have a rectangular shaped basement with dark tan carpeting, tile with dark gray and gold tones, a blue green sectional and oak tables. My walls are white right now and I would like to decorate it with a theme, but dont want the basement too dark. This space is used by my kids who are 15, 11, 10, 8, and 8. Please help with this project. Thanks

  1. khaki... matches everything you mentioned. (or a shade lighter than your carpet)

  2. just put up dry wall

  3. each wall a different vibrant colour.

maybe a nice quote written across the top of the walls ?

  4. ya you are correct light color will be the best option i think you should go for light cream or some thing like that this will make a light dark contrast with your carpet i.e dark tan.

  5. Do it like either a tan colour or Like a Teal colour.

  6. Tag it with spraypaint...nothing like a little graffiti

  7. use light color in blue and grey

  8. wow lots of kids:]

umm just paint the walls a cool colour like greens blues ect..

leave the carpet, and add some little activities like darts, pool, ect. for them to be occupied with, and then u dont have to worry about them deystroying the new and improved basement:Plol

(trust me i know how that is).

    good luck:]

  9. ID DO WHITE, BECAUSE LIGHTER COLORS MAKE THE ROOM LOOK BIGGER!!!!!!

  10. Green would look awesome.

  11. I'm not sure. The walls would look good in like a brown or tan or orange or something like that. It sounded good until you threw in a sectional.

  12. You need a light color since it's the basement and light colors are really playful for the the Kids and easy on the eye.

Look for a neutral/natural color like sand. a really light yellowey tannish color.

Or a really light baby blue sounds like any of the two would suit the the colors you mentioned and  is suitable for a basement and the kids.

  13. if it is a kids play room then let the kids pick the colors and let them do the painting....

  14. shouldn't matter its your basement.. lol jk, jk... ummm wood color is nice..

  15. earth tones are always the best, because you can make them fun, dress them up or down, and they go with everything. Plus they brighten everything up and won't make the room feel small, and it will make the walls taller.

  16. Red, like a dark ish kind of red.

  17. light tan

  18. if u want it to look light then paint it a tan or off white make sure whatever color u do paint it its washable seeing how its used mostly by ur kids

  19. Paint the walls pale yellow, and get the kids involved and sponge on a border, which can be 6" from the ceiling to half way down the wall... of blue, green, tan (very little tan) or sling on the walls with the paint brush...what ever you decide they will be more happy with it if they get to help...because they did it...good luck and enjoy.

  20. really light blue

    beige

    like pinkish brownish

    light green

    khaki

    white

    something light

because if it's dark color, at night it will look freaky

  21. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

    http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/

I think "loggia" (# 7506) would look very nice with the other colors that you describe, and it's pretty neutral & not dark.

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

As for a theme, you could look to Las Vegas casinos - they're great at themes. Like Egyptian a la the Luxor, Excalibur, New York New York, Tropicana, movie theater based on MGM Grand, Venetian, Paris, Treasure Island... the possibilities are endless.

  22. My bedroom is teal, dark purple and light purple, And I have a red couch and tan carpet. I think it would look cool on your basement.

  23. its a basement even green will look good there
