I have a tattoo that I desperately want to cover up, the thing is it is black and red and I wanted to get something bright and colorful, and am not sure if that would be possible. Do black tattoos need to be covered up with something that is dark?

  2. Typically, yes.  Go to a tattoo artist and have them take a look, they usually do consultations for free and can help you figure out what your options are.

You could also get some quotes on laser removal to lighten it up if you really want something brighter, that is always a possibility.  It will cost more money in the long run and it will take longer before you can get it covered (you will need at least a month to heal between laser sessions)but that option is defiantly available to you.

  3. you can get it removed.....but I don't know if that is painful or not....

  4. generally....you can only go darker

you really should talk to an artist though, you'd be surprised what the right artist can do with a crappy old tattoo

  5. Any colour darker than black and red.

If you want rid if it then you'll need to at least partially fade the black (with lasers) before you can go over it

  6. I had a tattoo covered Saturday...it was of 3 red hearts with a black banner...he covered it with a lotus (the flower).  Its on my upper back and it looks awesome!!!  Its black, purple, blue, and violet.
