  1. Mauve is so tought. You can use taupe on your walls to make it more soothing.  You just have to make sure the tone is right w/ the color of the rug.  If I were you, I would also draw most of the attention to the walls by putting some artwork.  Are you able to find a patterned rug on top of it.

  3. mauve is such a pretty color, but doesn't fit to the basic red/yellow/blue wheels nicely.   So your choices are limited to the neutral colors (black/white/any shades of gray), you can probably even go with light beige.   I'd go with a shade of light-medium gray.

  4. I recently painted my bedroom a mauve ("ponder" #160F-4 by Behr) with a dark red feature wall ("roasted pepper" #180D-7). I've never been a fan of pink, and the red really de-emphasizes that aspect of the mauve. So my advice is to choose something with red or purple in it.

    What you *don't* want is something that will contrast it like yellow or green. This will highlight the colors rather than mask them.
