  1. My husband and I painted ours a tan, sandy color. It's very soothing and works well with a variety of colors. It isn't as limiting as blue or green. And not as intrusive as yellow or red. And it's certainly not as dull as the white that preceded it.

Essentially, you need to find something that will work with many colors so that if you do get bored, you can change a bed spread and/or curtains and have everything look fresh and new.

Have you done any research in magazines? Or flipped through a decorating book at Lowes?

  2. maybe a mint green, a light blue, some thing relaxing thats not ugly.

  3. I would say any color, but since it will be for 4 years that's a long time so I'd say go with a blue, yellow, or purple but make it a light shade of the color so your room won't be so flashy every day because that could get annoying.

  4. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think it would look way cool if you paint your room with one of their SandScapes faux finishes in a blue like "edgewater" (# 7193). The paint has the texture of sand.

Then bedding in white, black/gray, chocolate, tan, yellow, lighter blue would look good. Here are some examples of what I would pick. YMMV:
