Question:

What colors to pick for this wall mural?

I have an extra bedroom in my house that I have made into a sort of hang out room for my 13 year old. Its small, 10x10. She only plans to use it to put in a small couch, which we already got (black), two small back chairs (look like directors chairs, but circles) and a TV. She has her bedroom for everything else.

I bought this for my daughter, she just fell in love with it http://www.allposters.com/gallery.asp?CID=451E3FFAA09E447A85387EB56203F9CD&APNum=2825565&SearchID=&vapnum=2825564&startat=/getPoster.asp We got the floor to ceiling size. Anyway, because its got a lot of "weird" colors in it (I'm more of a earthy tone kind of decorator) what should I paint the rest of the walls? I'm going to replace the carpet as well, and I have no idea what color to go with for that either. She hates beige and greens, I hate purples. What do you think would go in the room? Its a really small room.

Any help would be nice, I've got a really irritated 13 year old on my hands who is mad that I don't have all the answers for her today.

  1. In such a small room, I'd keep it bright white. Then I'd buy some cheap moulding from Home Depot and frame out the mural so it looks like a window. The trim could go around the edges of the wall so the whole wall looks like a glass window like you're in a skyscraper.

Then do a charcoal gray carpet.

  2. I would do the purple like the background of the mural  if you have a window near by get some black and purple sheers that you can hand from a black rod , I will se if I can find some are you in Canada or the US?

Lavender and yellow will also look good together

if you paint the walls purple you could frame some pictures in yellow frams ,look at the flowers that I have sent you those are the colours that you could work with !

  3. Yellow.  There are about three different types of yellows in that poster.  It's just a hang out room.

As for carpet...  why carpet?  I'd go for that snap-on, do it yourself wood they sell at Ikea.  Try to match the wood flooring from the poster.  That would be cool.
