Question:

What colour paint to use?

I am moving into house with four other students. We get to have our own rooms.

I am a part-time photographer as well and would like to do something cool with my room walls. My room will be a space where I can study, entertain friends, do photo-editing and rest at night. I would ideally like to decorate the walls with some of my own framed pictures that I have taken over-time - mostly of nature, people, etc.

My room will have a bed, a desk, chair, etc. My desk will hold my laptop and LCD monitor, etc.

The room colour right now is white. I think it looks like a cave. I wanted to go for Grey (but not too dark, not too light). What are your opinions?

I'd love to hear all your suggestions. Thanks.

Joe

  1. try www.clearspring.com/widgets/489878cc47b5...  - you can test different colors.  I love the red...

  2. Grey is calming, but also kind of dull.

I love to paint my room, because you can always do whatever you want.

If your okay with brighter colors, you can have like a turquoise, which is REALLY calming, with maybe some bright green, or white and black, stripes.

Or purple with some green, and gray.

I like to use MULTIPLE colors, so .. if you don't I might not be a good candidate.

You can also go to the dollarstore and pick up some things for your bed ( pillows )  and your desk.

If I were you I'd go with more colors then just one, because it gets dull with one color I find.

If you really like, kinda cold rooms.

Go with a deep sky blue, and paint some clouds, stars and moon.

You can do anything really, paint a jungle if your ambitious, or maybe paint a faux fireplace to add some.. life. I guess.

I hope you have fun with it.

  3. I just painted my room "Silver lake" by Benjamin Moore on Saturday.  It is the most beautiful grey color, goes with everything.  It looks very light in the can but dries to the perfect "not too light not too dark" shade.  I LOVE IT!  Maybe you will too.

  4. Grey would be nice. Just depends on what you like. My bedroom is Sage green, it is very calming and relaxing. Hope this helps.
