my room has dark brown almost black furniture, right now the colour of the walls is light blue, and i don't really like it.

what colour works with the colour of my furniture and looks kind of more mature. the room is kinda small, so i was wondering if maybe certain colours will make it look bigger?

my parents don't want the walls to be a really bright colour, because i do need to sleep in it.

thanks

  1. How about a dark green, like a forest foliage or hunter green? Makes the room dark and looks good, too!

  2. you need to find some bedding to choose a colour for your room

  3. Dont go with dark colors, because thats a little depressing.  Dark will also make your room seem smaller.  Its also nice to have light walls since if you leave the blinds open, the room seems a lot brighter, and you don't need lights so much.  Light is not the same as bright, so you can still have something mature thats not too dark.

A cream wall would look nice, and mature, but it is hard to maintain.  I think a light green or greenish blue might look nice as well.  The best thing to do, though, is to get samples.  You won't be able to imagine how it looks otherwise.  Go to a hardware store, most of them have samples of paint you can get for free.  Paint some squares on your wall, and see what you think would look nicest.

Oh, one more thing.  The worst mistake you can make is to mistake a nice color with a nice wall color.  The color might look really pretty by itself, but try to imagine it all over your walls. It might be a bit much.  It also should go with your furniture, which is why a sample is good.

OH and another thing. Lol sorry, i just keep thinking of things.  What I did with my wall is one dark blue wall, and then I had three lighter grey-blue walls.  That might look good (in any color) since it might add some contrast.  Because your furniture is dark, you might have to play around with what exactly you do, but again, get samples of dark and light colors and see what you think looks nice.  Also don't go with all different colors, thats just tacky.  Just one wall with a different shade, though, will look like a fancy contrast lol.

Hope it turns out nice :D

    Painting rooms is always fun.

  4. when re-decorating home, bedroom or any other room, always try to choose colors according to feng shui. in this case you will activate powers of 5 elements (water, earth, metal, wood and fire) and support all your lucky "areas" - this will attract love, romance, wealth, money, prosperity, luck etc etc

    good luck!

  5. a light brown or dark tan would be good

  6. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think a soft aqua green like "kind green" (# 6457) would look very nice & sophisticated with the dark furnishings.

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.
