Question:

What colour tape for my ice hockey goalie stick?

I play beer league, so no coaches or team requirements that I have to use team colour tape.

For several years I have always used white. Easier for me to find the puck that way, and when there are a lot of puck marks on it, easy to take off and re-tape.

Following the advise of someone in this group I used black my last game and I think it might have helped a little.

But when I got home from the rink I realised I have many other colours I could put on it! Some will be easier to replace than others, but I need your advise between the following (please keep in mind this is for ICE hockey so black pucks, red goalposts)

Burgandy

Navy Blue

Black (regular)

White

Teal

Orange

Green

Red

Black

White

Camoflauge

USA flag

Canada flag

Black friction

I also have the option of using any of these in the "shinguard" tape which I believe is a tad more water resistant

Orange

Red

Teal

Burgandy

White

  1. I always used White on my stick.  I suppose you could make it match your uniform, favorite NHL team, etc

  2. What about Pink? Hot PINK????

  3. i think green has always been a cool color for taping the stick. but if you dont like green than id go with the teal.

  4. Have you seen the orange camo??

  5. this is not on your list i believe but i heard yellow helps. it does not match the net or puck and it's pretty bright. i would give it a try unless your pads are yellow....

  6. Go with RED for both.  You are a Habs fan (Red), Live in texas (Red), and are Canadian....I think (Red).

    No logic.

  7. This sounds weird but I'd pick teal, it's easier to emphasize the puck and makes it more apparent, and it REALLY stands out, by the way, how do you get so many tape colors?

  8. i would use white because the tape blends in with the ice and hard for players to see where your stick is. but if you say you play better with black then use black.

  9. red and white

*lol I'm not sure, I was trying to go with a Canadian/Habs theme

  10. red and white

  11. white so it blends in with the ice.  If a shooters taking his shot it's much easier to see a black slab against the white ice as opposed to a white strip.

  12. I would say that since you're a Canadien's fan, go with the bleu, blanc, et rouge.

That would how your true sentiments.

  13. I'm a goalie also and if your as superstitious as I am then use whatever works to make you play better.

  14. Even as a player, I have fun with it. I weave tape and make a checkered pattern with different colors going up and down in diagonal lines and such- not just a plain checkered flag. Give you a chance to be a little creative and change things up. I use black with color tape woven in.

If I were you I would try The primary color of your pads with the other two woven in.

The disadvantage is that it does take time, and it's not any more practical then normal tape. But it looks cool and you'll be the only one to have something like that.

Oh- and with the paddle on the goalie stick you have a lot more room to do things with the weave.

  15. I think that teal would be best if it's a bright teal. If not, then probably white.
