What colour will this kitten be as an adult?

Any idea what kind of colour/markings this purebred Ragdoll kitty might have when it grows up? It's 6 weeks old and supposed to be a blue cream colourpoint (mum was a seal tortie colourpoint, dad was a blue colourpoint bi-colour). Does it look more brown/seal coloured than gray/blue coloured to you? And how can the breeder tell what colour the kitten will be when they're so young & have hardly any markings/colour at all? I mean, surely they could end up just like their mum, just like their dad, or a mix of both? How do they know? Thanks!! =] x

  1. LOOKS LIKE A FLAME POINT SIAMESE.

WHAT YOU SEE AS A KITTEN IS WHAT YOU WILL GET AS AN ADULT.

BE PREPARED TO HAVE A CAT THAT TALKS AND WANT ATTENTION. BUT THEY ARE FUN AND SMART CATS. BE PREPARED TO SEE IF KITTY BRINGS BACK THINGS YOU FETCH.

GIVE HER KISSES FOR ME !!!!!

  2. Well, Im not an expert, but you can definitely see the tortie.  Maybe he/she will be a blue tortie colorpoint???  I am going thru the same thing...my kitty is a blue bicolor Ragdoll...but is starting to look a little darker, especially his nose!  I also wondered how the breeder can tell you exactly what you are getting, when it takes years for their full color to develop!  Regardless, your kitty is adorable and will be gorgeous!

  3. She is the color she is going to be as an adult.  You have a Siamese kitten.  They are active and chatterboxes!

  4. What a darling kitten!  I feel in love with the Ragdoll breed many years ago when I first read about them.  Someday, I hope to have one too!

The genetics governing coat coloration is quite complex..I have attached a link to give you an idea.  But in a nutshell, this link says the blue is a dilute seal.  I think this breeder knows or has a good idea of the genes of her breeding kitties so she can make an educated guess as to what colors the adults will finally be.  My best guess from looking at her picture and pictures of other blue and seal colors, your darling will be blue.

As for all the folks saying you have a Siamese, people automatically think Siamese when they see the pointed color patterns.  They don't realize the pointed color pattern is seen in many different cat breeds-pedigree and non-pedigree.

Purrs to you and darling kitten.

  5. Your breeder will know what color that she is going to be no doubt, because she has bred these two cats before or others with the same color. There are only so many color possibilities when cats are bred together.

If she is a professional breeder these kittens will not leave their mother until they are AT LEAST 10 weeks old, 12 is better.  By  then the breeder should have a lock on her color and yes the kitten will darken as she ages and her color may change in depth from winter to summer.

Congratulations and good luck with your new baby.  Ragdolls are fun!

  6. she will be the same color she is now..

  7. aww, so cute

Her points look blue to me, brown/seal points would probably be darker already and I don't think they really look brown.  I'm assuming you found a good breeder, so they should have the experience to know for sure even when the points are barely developed.  When you pick him up maybe they'll have some seal point ones you can see to compare.  But I think the breeder is probably right. congrats!

edit: to the others, this is a ragdoll kitty, and like all pointed cats his coloring will continue to darken some for 1 or 2 years.  The colder areas of his body will get darker.

I have a red lynx point DSH and at 10 weeks old I've already seen him darken a little even in a warm climate.
