The wallpaper i have is black and gold but it is the new like indian style one. I am so sorry i don't really know how to describe it, like the new patter that is out now. I absolutly love it and i bough it because it did have a indian feel to it. However i have my back wall and front wall covered with this then just beige painted walls which i am no so bored of, therefore my question is...

What colour could i put with black and gold to make it look nice, i was thinking deep purple but any suggestions are welcome

and also i would like it to feel like an indian princess bedroom. I will eventually get all the drapes and everything for around my bed but help with the colour of paint is very welcome now.

Thank you

  1. I would keep the beige walls and add a border either at the top or near the middle to break up the plain walls.  Or add some sheer fabric or dramatic framed prints to break up the blank beige.  You could even use offcuts of the wallpaper you are using to create framed 'pictures' on the walls.  That way you are following the theme, keeping it consistent and matching yet not too busy so it becomes overpowering.  You could then go to the extreme with colourful drapes and bedding as these can be changed a lot easier than wallpaper.

  2. Many colors will go with black/gold; think of the black/gold as accent colors.

    How about fuchsia?

  3. deep red or purple

I'd go with purple, too much red and gold can look kinda Xmas looking :)

A deep jade green could be nice

  4. Deep red definitely.

  5. What about orange? Like a deep or burnt orange? That sounds like it might be nice... maybe not so princess though....

  6. Green would go very well with gold, and not so badly with black. As you say, purple would probably go well and be more eastern looking

  7. Although most colours go with Gold and Black, I think you run the risk of the room feeling oppressive if you go for red or deep purple.

I would suggest you paint the walls a 'putty' or 'stone' colour such as these:

This way your gorgeous wallpaper can do the talking. Black and Gold are so elegant you don't want anything else to over power them.

You can then pick up the black and gold in your accessories. And the suggestion above of framing some off-cuts of wallpaper is great! It shows great attention to detail.

Your indian pattern is probably a modern type of paisley design - very fashionable at the moment!

There are lots of ways you can achieve an Indian Princess style room, while keeping in stylish and mature. Luscious silk cushions and bedspreads - why not buy some sari material for drapes? Wooden indian statues (although some believe this is bad luck if you don't worship them) and a gorgegous light shade will all help add to the indian feel of the room!

There are of course little essentials as well like candles and inscense sticks.
