According to profesor John Brookfiel, from University of Nottingham (England), the egg came first. Why? He explains that the genetic material of a living thing does not change during the life term of that being, so a living chicken can not come from a change in a living kangaro. The chicken had to come from an egg, because inside that egg a living thing with the same DNA of a chicken will later be a living chicken.  Sorry, English is not my first language, so I hope I made myself understood.

But a less christian answer is that chickens can survive without eggs, but an egg just sitting there would die, without warmth, so Im saying chicken!!

The egg. Assuming that there were no chickens at the beginning of the Earth, they had to evolve into chickens. One must consider the definition of a chicken. What is it? When is it a chicken? Since they evolved, there would have to be an egg before it was a chicken. The animal that laid the egg for the first chicken was not a chicken. It was something else. It just so happened that in the egg there was a mutation that thus created the chicken. This is all in agreement with Darwin's theory of evolution. There must have been an egg before the first chicken was born.
