I need help to come up with a good explanation of the following quote by Zen Master Shoitsu. Please tell me what you think of it when you read it.

  1. My analysis would be that he was referring to a mind that is not fettered by conventional thinking. A so-called "free thinker", one who can easily go from one subject to another in his/her mind without getting bogged down. Honestly, IDK. Just guessing. Do you have a longer quote? Perhaps it is in the context...


  2. it sounds like someone that has been told or taught something many, many times, but the information is never remembered.
