  1. Arepas (like a corn bread), empanadas (deep fried turnover meals), tropical fruits, cachapa (corn pancake), hallacas (tamales with beef, chicken, green olives, raisins and capers), asado ***** (brown sugar pot roast)

  2. Rice with beef and black beans, empanadas, arepas, bollos, eggs with tomatoes en onion, spaguetti and meat balls, fried chicken, home made fruit juice, venezuelan's hot dogs, cachitos with ham, pastelitos with cheese, we it a lot of ham and cheese, paqueques, fried yellow plantais, tequeños, bread with  butter ham and cheese, cachapa etc

  3. the national dish is "pabellón" which is black beans, carne mechada (shredded meat), white rice and fried plantains.

For breakfast most people eat arepas which are round flat corn bread that are filled with whatever you want: cheese, jam, eggs, avocado, egg salad, black beans, etc. You can buy them at "areperas" and according to the filling they have different names:

    Arepa examples:

    Viuda: plain, no filling

Reina pepiada: with chicken, mayonnaise and avocado

Peluda: shredded meat and yellow cheese.

People also eat breakfast at "panaderías" (bakeries) people would eat cachitos (pastries filled with cheese or jam) with juices or coffee. Café con leche (coffee with milk) is very popular. Cachapas con queso is another popular breakfast it's like a corn pancake (it's yellow and kind of sweet, you can feel the corn when you bite into it) and you eat it with a fresh soft white cheese called "queso de mano" or one called "queso telita"

There are also empanadas that are fried and filled with white cheese, meat or chicken. Sometimes you can find them filled with fish (cazón) or even black beans.

For lunch and dinner there are many popular dishes like asado ne'gro, bollos pelones, pabellón, fish, hallacas at christmas, etc. White rice is almost always at the table. Because Venezuelan culture has many influences from immigrant cultures that have come to the country over the years, our food is very mixed and depending on your family and your roots you eat different stuff at home. My family has nothing to do with Italy but on Sundays we love eating lasagna.

Most restaurant in the Caracas area are international. If you check the Caracas phone book there are more Chinese restaurants than any other kind of restaurants.

Venezuela has many tradicional dishes and desserts but they are too complicated for the avarage person to make for dinner after coming home from work after being in traffic for 2 hours. So many of those family recipies get lost. Armando Scanonne's cookbook "la cocina de Caracas" has many of those recipies that not even our grandmothers make anymore.
