  1. This is problematic.   Corporate American has made trillions (literally) of dollars by laying off older workers and taking away their benefits.  This whole thing started to gain strength in the Jimmy Carter administration and has gained momentum over the years.  Look at what Boeing did to it's workers recently, they stole retirement funds from their retiree's and hide behind our liberal courts to do it.  Boeing is not the only company to have done this, but it was the biggest.

The more the politicians mess with social security, the more this happens. It's because they pass laws to take away benefits and money from social security, and then corporate America uses those same laws to raid private sector entitlements.  Sad, But true.

I am 58.  Have been in the IT profession for about 28 years.  in the last 18 years I have been downsized 5 times, the latest was 3 months ago.

But, not to worry.  As an older worker you have skills and wisdom the younger folks don't have.  In the mean time, because we are in a negative population growth, the entire work force is aging, Corporate America is finding out they need us.  So, polish up your resume and keep up hope.
