  1. I'm not sure whether the Bud Clydes are custom shod or whether they use a prefab shoe.  I doubt if they make the shoes from bar stock;  most likely they use a prefab product that is altered as needed for the horses.

This is one company that supplies draft horse shoes:  http://www.willlent.com/

This is an article about shoeing draft horses:

  2. Can't find that info. Here is what I did find. (of possible interest.)

The horses are shod every six weeks. Regular steel shoes are used with borium added for durability and traction. Leather pads are used to help cushion and protect their hooves. Each shoe weighs about five pounds. If a shoe comes loose while on the road several of the crew members are qualified to reset it.

Clydesdale horseshoes measure more than 20 inches from end to end and weigh about five pounds - more than twice as long and five times as heavy as the shoe worn by a riding horse. A horse's hoof is made of a nerveless, horn-like substance similar to the human fingernail, so being fitted for shoes affects the animal no more than a manicure affects people.

  3. This question belong in the general HORSES category, NOT horse racing.  Clydesdales do NOT race!
