  1. Sometimes individual components are recycled from the boards - memories, logic ICs and other high-value devices.

    Metal chassis are recycled for the steel.

    The PC boards have copper, tin, lead (unfortunately) and gold, which are smelted down.

    Plastic enclosures (usually ABS) can sometimes be ground up and reused as feedstock for new plastic.

    CRTs are broken down (carefully) and the glass and precious metals recycled.
