It is important that it keeps our people well fed with relatively cheap food. Agriculture is becoming important in supplying fuel and working toward making the US self sufficient in their fuel use. The importance of the agriculture sector spills over in to the manufacturing and mining sectors of the country as well.

Agriculture is defined as the production of food and other  products for use in the production of consumable products. This excludes forestry,mining and fishing but does include intensive factory farming. The economy of Agriculture though is a wider question and includes all allied industries from Agricultural engineering (Tractors ET AL), Markets, and agricultural sprays and fertilizers. Other parts of the economy include storage, agro-distribution, research, and development of new crops etc. The Geo-economics include the tariff systems and distribution between countries.

Depending upon location this sector will be highly influenced by weather, and political considerations. EU countries for example have a 'single market' approach to matters relating to agriculture.
