What conditions generate lenticular and banner clouds?

  1. Lenticular clouds develop as a result of a standing wave pattern created when stable air moves atop a mountain...  

    It signifies turbulence as the wave can bounce around smaller planes.  The clouds usually develop just off the peak on the leeward side of a moutain range..  found in places like west of Denver/Colorado Springs.

    The reason a cloud is formed at the wave's crests is because of the vertical motion created by the wave pushing stable airmasses upward which causes them to condense.
