my last period started on july 20 and ended july 26. i was expected to start between aug. 20 and aug. 26. it's a week later (sept. 1) and no period.

when calculating a cycle, do i start from the beginning of my last period (meaning it's been 6 weeks) or do i start from the end of my last period (meaning it's been 5 weeks)? i have taken 2 home tests (aug. 29 and aug. 31), but they were negative. i took them in the evening, so i know i should try one in the morning (prob in a couple of days).

would you consider this "late"? would it be 5 or 6 weeks for a cycle?

does a cycle = the beginning of one period to the beginning of the next? or the end of one period to the beginning of the next?

  1. Your cycle is from Day 1 of your period until Day 1 of your next period. This would mean you on day 43 of your cycle. If both tests were negative you might not be pg. I'd wait until tomorrow morning and take another one. you may just be having a really off cycle.

My cycles range from 30-35 day cycles. I understand how much that sucks. I'm sorry hon

  2. A cycle is the FIRST day of your period to the FIRST day of your next period.  Ovulation is what determines someones period length.  If you're late...you could be 1. pregnant, or 2. you ovulated late.  Which in return makes your period "seem" late.  Whenever you ovulate...the number of days after ovulation to the first day of your next period is ALWAYS the same (give or take a day).  The time before ovulation is what varies widely.
