Can you say you met someone, just by being in the same bar, mall, store, restaurant etc. or do you have to be able to ask for an autograph at least, strike up a quick conversation, or shake hands.

  1. I agree with the general concensus. To meet someone you must have some interpersonal exchange. I haven't meet everyone I've ever been on an airplane with.   That's ridiculous.   But the people who sat next to me, I can say I met most of them.  I flew on the the same plane as Jack LaLane, but I didn't meet the ancient four foot stack of muscle.

  2. saying hi and striking up a conversation. you cannot say you met someone just by being in the same place at the same time

  3. Haha, there's got to be some type of verbal (chat) or physical (handshake) interaction, otherwise i can say i've met every player from every team during their visits to the Shark Tank!

  4. If anyone doubts that I played hockey with Bobby Clarke let me know and I will gladly e-mail you a picture taken after the game. After that, he spent about an hour talking to us and having a couple cold beers. Not the typical Spring Break in Texas experience. (btw it's the same picture as the one I have up but I have cropped him out in this one)

I can prove all that. I had a couple pics for him to sign some of which he personalised, others not; and then spoke to him for at least 5 - 10 minutes about the Summit Series (Canada vs Russia in 1972) as well as how the NHL has changed over the years + he came back to the rink a couple days later and I didn't play in that game but he greeted me like an old friend. I may be a Canadiens fan, but Clarkie is a class act regardless.

  5. Getting a personalized autograph and actually talking to the person.

    Autograph

handshaking or hug  (preferably a hug for me as I am female)

    quick conversation or longer

    All of the above!

If you just see them, then you should just say you saw them. No lying now.

  6. To me if you are going to say you met someone you had to  at least speak to them. Otherwise you should just say you saw them somewhere.

No, I don't think you need to have proof you shook hands. Unless you're a known liar!!

  7. how can you say you've met someone when you haven't???

I would say shaking hands or having a beer together

  8. I'd say an actual introduction.  That way it is a "meeting" for both parties.  Not just you saying hi to them and they just hearing a fan say hi.

  9. Meeting someone, be it a celebrity or farmer Brown implies come face to face and having a conversation. Sharing of bodily fluids or having a beer together isn't necessary. Never having been one for collecting autographs, nor feeling a need to prove my worth by my company I doubt I can prove most of my "meetings" with celebrities. But after playing, coaching, and refereeing hockey for fifty plus years in some pretty mad hockey markets I have met some hockey celebrities. From my first boyhood hero of Ronnie Hurst to Washington's latest signee Scott Barney. I've met a few.

  10. say hi, shake hands
