  1. Although usally described as being in "Central America" it is part of the North American continent.

Confusion may spring from the fact that South America is usually thought of as Hispanic and North America as Anglo. Since the nations south of the Rio Grande, beginning with Mexico are Hispanic the demarcation between North and South America is often confused.

There is also the problem of varying terms used to describe the regions of the New World. As I said at the beginning, Guatemala is often said to be in "Central America" although no such continent exists. The term is used to describe the nations from Mexico to Panama which are hispanic in language and culture but part of North America.

The term "Latin America" is also used to describe area south of the United States which is Hispanic (or Portugese) in language and includes all of South America and part of North America.

  2. Well its on the map of north America, southern Mexico.

  3. Actually, it depends on your location.  If you are in Guatemala, then the continent is "America."  In Latin American schools, you are taught that the entire western hemisphere is one continent called "America."  But if you are in the US, then they teach you that there are two continents--North and South America, with Guatemala and Central America belonging to North America.
