  1. Costa Rica is located in Central America (which is a cultural region; as is Latin America) but technically all of Central America is the southernmost tip of North America.

Therefore, Costa Rica is located on the continent of North America (if you live in the U.S.) or the continent of America (if you live in Latin America).

This depends on where you live. Here in Nicaragua we are taught that there are only 6 continents: America, Australia, Asia, Europe, Antarctica and Africa. In the U.S. they're taught 7 continents: North America, South America, Australia, Asia, Europe, Antarctica and Africa. However, no countries recognize Central America as a continent on its own. The definition of a continent differs with your place of residence.

  2. buy a map.

  3. Wow.... some of the posters above really need a map.

The land mass known as North America contains all of Costa Rica (and part of Panama).

Yes, it is in Central America, but North America includes EVERYTHING on the CONTINENTAL SHELF.

The Continental Shelf is how various continents are decided... North America actually includes Canada, The USA, Mexico, All Central American Countries, almost all Carribean Islands, including the lesser antillies.

So the simple answer: "Costa Rica is part of North America".

  4. I'M FROM CENTROAMERICA, WE CONSIDER   AMERICA AS ONE CONTINENT, DIVIDED BY 3 REGIONS NORTH, CENTRAL, AND SOUTH  IS VERY SIMPLE. BUT YES COSTA RICA IS IN CENTOAMERICA. IN THE US EVERYTHING IS COMPLICATED, METRIC SYSTEM FOR EXAMPLE . IF SOUTH AMERICA IS A CONTINENT MAYBE EASTERN EUROPE IS ONE TOO. REMEMBER THE OLYMPIC FLAG IT HAS A MEANING THOSE FIVE RINGS THAT YOU SEE IN THERE, IT MEANS FIVE CONTINENTS .

  5. Soleluna is right!!! Costa Rica is in AMERICA!!! .... Gosh!!

  6. Costa Rica is in Central America.

  7. Go back to school or buy a map

  8. Costa Rica is in Central America. Panama is more southern and then Venezuela which is part of South America. Costa Rica is gorgeous and has awesome jungles. Known for its toucans too.

  9. Its in Central America in the Caribbean!

  10. Costa Rica is in America.

  11. Considered Central America...but after reading a couple of the other posts above, they sound correct.  So I'm thinking that it is actually North America.

  12. FYI Costa Rica is located in Central America and not in North America.  North America consists of Canada, the U.S.A., and Mexico.

  13. Your question is in what continent is Costa Rica on, so Costa Rica is in America, that is the continent, which is divided in 3 parts: North America (Canada,USA and Mexico), Central America (including Costa Rica), and South America.

P.S. The problem is that us, latin american people, study geography differently from the north american people.  As I explained above, we consider America one continent divided in 3 regions.   And in the USA you study things in a different way, considering North America a continent and South America another, so we won't agree with your explanation.  But for those who live in Costa Rica, and -I think- for all Central Americans, Costa Rica is in Central America, and part of the continent: America.

  14. Adyari is correct and the other answerers are not.  Central America is not its own continent, but is considered part of North America geographically.  Costa Rica, while being in Central America, is technically part of North America.  The North American continent ends at either the Panama/Colombia border or the Panama Canal, depending on the convention you accept.  So while the three main countries of North America are USA, Canada and Mexico, all of the Central American countries are also part of the same continent.
