What cord can connect a dv camcorder to an hp laptop?

Hi, I have a digital camcorder and i need to transfer the video to my hp laptop. I bought a dv cord, but this only connected it to my pc. There is no place for a dv cord to plug into the laptop. Can a usb cord be used for this? Thank You

No. a USB cable cannot be used to transfer DV from the miniDV tape camcorder. A USB to firewire converter/adapter will not work, either.

Since you did not tell us which HP laptop, it is difficult to help - but my HP laptop has a PCMCIA slot on the left side. I can use

If it does not have any available expansion slot, then you can transfer video using only an analog/digital bridge

Video quality will be a lot less than the digital transfer used by the DV/firewire method.
