  1. Quite a few newspapers - small ones and large chains - use Macs. They were quickest off the line with pagination software development and handled the quirks of programs like Quark better than MS systems. They also had simple networking capabilities well before Microsoft integrated that into their software.

In general, the graphic industry - advertising, design, etc. - has always been a Mac stronghold.

I'm not sure other than that.

  2. I never liked Macs.  As a computer gamer, I've found Mac has never had the selection or as many skilled developers making titles.  Here's what a company looks at in this modern day:

First of all, Macs used to have problem with not being compatible in any way to PCs.  If you wrote a file in MS Word, you could not get it to open on a Mac.  Apple has pretty much solved that in creating a shell within their OS to emulate Windows and its programs fairly seamlessly.  But if you've been using one system and its users are familiar with it, and you own the equipment already, why switch?

Secondly, Macs have a higher price point than a similarly equipped PC.  If you're a large corporation, would you rather spend $10 on equipment/computers, or $15 million?  It's not hard math.

Thirdly, and I'm not sure if there's any truth to this because I'm just hearing this as speculation, but Macs are harder to network.  If this is true, then it's more cumbersome to get a large number of Macs working in tandem.

So like the others have said, it's primarily being used by smaller businesses, not corporations.  Businesses invested in graphic or web design may prefer the capabilities of the Mac, and I'm sure Apple is 100% Mac-invested.

  3. I never ran across a corporation using Mac's in the many years I managed  IT consulting teams across the US, including Fed, State, city governments.  They are primarily used in departments/firms where graphics/publishing is primary.
