  1. Why don't you try crocheting?  I think there's so many more options in crocheting, but knitting is also a really great skill to know.

  2. a jumper

    socks

    a shawl

    a poncho

    a jacket

    slippers

    bag

    things like that :)

  3. Well, now might be a good time to knit a baby sweater to learn some shaping and seaming techniques, it is a logical step for you.  A simple stockinette baby sweater is small enough to finish fairly quickly and technical enough to teach you decreases and increases and such.  From there you can learn to knit a simple sweater for yourself.  In fact, if you can find some ribbon yarn, Lion has a terrific, quick and easy tank top that knits up quickly (I'm trying to think, I made a couple last year, I think this is on a size 13 needle, needs 4 or 5 balls of ribbon yarn) and can be done on straight needles as well as circulars.  It has a few decreases and some shaping at the armholes and shoulder straps, but if you've done hats you should be able to do this no sweat.  It's a free pattern on www.lionbrand.com, although you may need to register to use the site, they have a great weekly e-newsletter that almost always has something easy to knit.

  4. You could make a bag/backpack. Just knit with size 8 needles a piece of about a hundred sts.  Do it until it is as tall as you want the bag.  Then put half of the sts on a holder, knit the other for 2in and bind them off.  Knit the half on holder for 2in and bind off.  Fold over the flaps and seam.  Fold piece in half and seam up the side.  Make the strap by knitting 5 sts in k1 p1 ribbing.  Make it long enough to be a strap for each arm and to go around the top when closed.  Thread strap through top flaps so it will close when pulled, and then seam them to the bottom.  You can pick a st pattern to put in the body of it.
