  1. may be start by help themself and the country elect a real goverment who can come and help improve the country for real, rather than the corrupter who paid them the vote!

ask, gov from where respont for the asian Financial crisis some 10years ago if not from isan!

then people from where elect those respont for the Financial crisis back to the office and they proof to be yet the most corrupted thai gov of all time, if not the people from isan?

all the gov came from isan has given country nothing but poor performer and destroy the country backbone economic and that what keep the country at the 3rd world!

  2. It already gets millions of dollars indirectly from tourists in Pattaya who go to the bars and take out the Isaan girls.  The money eventually filters its way back to the farm.  Then there are those who marry and build a house in northeast Thailand and more money comes in from retirees.

  3. That's a good question because I only went to Isan because a Thai friend invited me. I really enjoyed it. The weather was less severe, the country side is beautiful, and there are a lot of interesting sights.

So, I would say the first thing would be to make tourist aware of what Isan has to offer. Sort of like individual states do here in America. They use print ads and TV spots showing people doing fun things (i.e. a family white-water rafting) in their state then hit you with the slogan, "Colorful Colorado, what are you waiting for?"

They could run commercials before English movies in Bnagkok highlighting some of the impressive sites that are around. Show the guys on bicycle rickshaw in Udon Thani (we Westerners eat that stuff up).

For me, one of the coolest things I found in Isan were little spots with outdoor restaurants and things along the Meikong river. I think it would be a blast to take a day trip on raft ride stopping to enjoy a few of those spots. I don't know if anyone offers anything like that, but I would go for sure.

To sum up, I think an add campaign aimed at tourist in Bangkok looking for some where other than Phuket or Chiang Mai to see a little Thai culture, could be really effective.

And it doesn't have to be expensive. Thai are resourceful. They could recruit some Bangkok film students to put something together for next to nothing.

In fact, I'm getting excited thinking about it. I'm going to grab my video camera, my MAC, and final cut pro and head up to Isan! (I wish I could anyway.)

    Anyway, just my humble idea.
